The new, free, app is named Easy IOTN and can be downloaded now for free through the Apple app store. On opening the Easy IOTN, you are given two choices – IOTN scoring and CPD training (one hour verifiable CPD)..
If you choose the IOTN scoring option, you enter options for missing teeth, overjet, crossbite, displacement and overbite, to give you the Dental Health Score (DHC).
To assess the aesthetic component of the IOTN, you take a picture of your patient with your iPhone, which will be deleted at the end of the exercise, you can then compare the image with stock pictures of the various grades of appearance and decide which is most alike. With all the information entered you are given a final score and advice on whether the case may be eligible for NHS treatment.
The tool is very useful and can be of assistance when discussing with patient’s their eligibility for NHS orthodontic care.
