Comprehensive care under GA for Special Care patients.
• Age – all ages
• Disability – the patient has a physical disability, a significant learning disability, or behavioural problem which precludes care without the use of general anaesthesia.
PAEDIATRIC
Referrals will be accepted for treatment with Inhalation Sedation if they comply with the following criteria:
• Patient is 6 years old and over.The patients 18th birthday is our upper age limit for acceptance
• Patient is able to sit in the dental chair and comply for examination
• Patient requires restoration of permanent teeth
• Patient requires extraction of permanent teeth
• Patient has deciduous teeth causing pain
• Patient requires orthodontic extractions (with radiographs and copy of orthodontist’s treatment plan)
• Patient requires treatment due to trauma of permanent incisors
ADULTS
• Adult patients clinically diagnosed as suffering from severe anxiety or phobia to dental treatment may be accepted for treatment if IV sedation is unsuitable.
• They should be under the care of an appropriate professional such as a clinical psychologist or another practitioner with similar expertise and qualifications.
ALL PATIENTS
• All patients are assessed and only offered IHS should this seem appropriate.
• Treatment by behavioural management would be offered in preference.
• Special care patients are accepted on general acceptance criteria and assessed clinically with regards to the appropriate use of inhalation sedation.
