How often to change your toothbrush?

by Nicola Rowbottom 08 Nov 2015 | Categories: All news items, Your oral health

It’s one of those questions that nobody really knows the answer to, but it’s quite important that you do.

The experts say you should change your toothbrush every three months to maintain good dental health.

Studies show that toothbrushes are far less effective at removing plaque after the three-month period, meaning you should ditch the old one and grab a new one – or if you’re an electric toothbrush fan then replace the head.

Dentists also suggest that it’s also important to change your toothbrush after you’re sick or have a mouth infection.

Fungus and bacteria can develop in your toothbrush and so its important to let it dry out between uses. Store your toothbrush in an upright position to ensure that it can dry.

“Change your toothbrush at least every three months.”
